Nelson Mandela


Nelson Mandela is a relevant famous person from South Africa. He is one of the most admirated public characters in the world who wanted a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in hermony and with equal opportunities. He was a president in 1991 and ruled the country until 1999 when he decided to retire from political life.

Education and culture

About education primary schools span the first seven years of schooling. South Africa has a numerous universities. Public expenditure on education was at 5,4% of the 2002.
In relation to its culture, we can say that there isn't only a one kind of music in South Africa.
Many black musicians. White and coloured South African singers are historically influenced by European music styles.
This is a nation which has produced world-famous jazz musicians, like Chris Mc Gregor, Hugh Masekela, etcetera. African music covers multiple genres, such as the contemporary music and the punk rock.
The music also includes Kxaito, a new music genre that developed in the mid 80's and has developed to become the most popular social economical form of representation among the populous.
The most popular sports of South Africa are soccer, rugby union and cricket. Other sports with significant support are swimming, athletics, golf, boxing and tennis.

Economy

South Africa has a large agricultural sector and is an important exporter of farming products. This industry contributes around 10% of formal employment, relatively compared to other parts of Africa.
Although the commercial farming sector is relatively well developed, people in some rural areas still survive on subsistence agriculture. It's the eighth largest wine producer in the world, and the eleventh largest producer og sunflower seed.

South African population

Sotuh Africa is a nation of about 50 million people of diverse origins, cultures, languages and religions. It's a country ethincally diverse. Most of Sotuh African population are black African ancentry.
The most important religion of Sotuh African people is Christianity.

General Aspects


Sotuh Africa is known for its diversity in cultures and languages. Eleven official languages are recognized in the constitution. Two of these languages are of European origin.
South Africa is one of the founding members of the African Union, and has the largest economy of all the members. His monetary unit is the Rand.

Introduction



The Republic of South Africa is a country located in the south of Africa, with 2798 kilometres. It is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean in the west and by the Indian Ocean in the south and east. Its neighbours are Namibia in the northwest, Zimbabwe and Botswana in the north, and Mozambique and Swaziland in the northeast.
